TechCamp Chennai provided 57 young, first generation entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives with necessary skills and tools to improve their digital literacy, communication capacity and to realize the full potential of social media and online resources to launch and scale their businesses.
Our Founder and CEO, Vivek Kumar, had the opportunity to serve as one of 10 trainers for the event. His topic was, “Scaling your Business: Start Local, Go Global. Here are tweets from the event, along with a note below from Vivek:

It is so eye opening to see how many great things are going on in the world, especially from disadvantaged youth in developing nations. Here are three of my favorite initiatives:
Srishti Bakshi is going to walk 2300 miles (3800 km) from Tamil Nadu in South India to Srinagar India on a Modern Day Dandi March to end violence against women. She hopes to collect 1 BILLION STEPS toward making India a safer country for women. She’s a dear friend and I am so so proud of her for taking on this life-changing project to make the world a better place.
Nawneet Ranjan is behind Dharavi Diary, where he is teaching youth in the world’s 3rd largest slum (based in Mumbai) how to write code and build apps. He is the recipient of the Google Rise Award (one of 30 organizations in 18 countries). Amazing to see someone fusing technology and innovation for some of the world’s poorest people – what a hero!
J. Shyam Jude and his team of engineers at Analog and Digitals Labs are installing intelligent traffic signals across India, helping save real lives! His company already maintains all of the traffic signals in Chennai. As someone who suffered a concussion from a road safety accident in India, I feel a soft spot for the work Shyam and his team are doing.
Finally, it was very nice for us to hear Lakshmi Narayanan talk about scaling Cognizant into what it is today.
TechCamp Chennai was one of the best experiences I’ve had the honor to be part of. Thank you Phil Sticha and Samuel Gordon II, the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Consulate General Chennai, Global India Fund, Samhita, my fellow trainers, and most importantly, each of the participants.
